Brendon Buchanan

Brendon started his training in 2001 but had to a break shortly after starting following a serious shoulder operation. He came back to his training in 2005.

He started his club in 2008 as 1st kyu due to the retirement of his teacher.

Brendon met Shihan Lewis Bernaldo de Quiros in 2013 at a seminar in Lancaster UK. Following that seminar Brendon chose to follow Lewis and passed his black belt in 2015.

From 2013 to the current day Brendon visits Lewis Shihan multiple times per year all around Europe.

Lewis Bernaldo de Quirós

Lewis Bernaldo de Quirós trained full-time under the direction of Morihiro Saito Sensei (9th Dan) from 1986 to 1993 at the Iwama Dojo in Japan.

Before beginning his training in Aikido, he trained for 10 years in both Judo and Karate (Shotokan Karate under the direction of Keinosuke Enoeda Sensei, 9th Dan, in London).

During his stay in Japan he also practiced Kyudo (traditional Japanese archery) and Zen.

Since his return from Japan he has dedicated himself entirely to teaching Aikido and to date has given more than 300 international seminars. After his return he maintained regular contact with his teacher, through seminars participating both as an assistant and as a translator, until the death of Morihiro Saito Sensei in 2002.

Lewis received the 5th Dan Aikikai degree from Morihiro Saito Sensei in 1999, 6th Dan Aikikai degree from Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba (Hombu Dojo in Tokyo) in 2009 and 7th Dan in 2024.

He is the main instructor and examiner, recognized by Hombu Dojo, of the European network of dojos “Traditional Aikido Europe”, committed to the development, research and dissemination of the Aikido style known as Aikido Takemusu (Aikido Iwama), which was taught directly to Morihiro Saito Sensei during his more than 23 years as a direct student at the founder’s dojo in Iwama, Japan.

Lewis is the Dojo Cho of Takemusu Aikido Motril (Granada – Spain) and the Technical Director of Traditional Aikido Europe (TAE).

Lewis is a direct student of Morihiro Saito Sensei.

Morihiro Saito Sensei

Morihiro Saito Sensei was one of the main students of the founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba, being his only teacher for more than 23 years. He assumed the responsibilities of guardian of the Aikido Shrine and as Dojo Cho at the founder’s Dojo in Iwama until the death of Morihei Ueshiba in 1969.

Morihiro Saito Sensei passed away on May 13, 2002.
